In 2011, Sun International celebrates 10 years of service to Zambia. In addition to delighting its visitors, Sun International makes a point of supporting local communities and protecting the environment of the country in which it operates. The resort has boosted the number of visitors to Livingstone, and consequently the country’s economy. Hundreds of families have seen their lives improve as a result, and the hotel group has won numerous awards.
The resort is located in the heart of the Mosi-Oa-Tuya National Park, and preserving the flora and fauna is one of its priorities. The hundred-year-old trees that are now part of the park have been preserved. The impalas, giraffes, monkeys and zebras that roam freely around the resort are carefully cared for.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Royal Livingstone is getting a facelift! 5 million has been earmarked for the renovations.
The hotel’s 173 rooms are divided into two-storey pavilions. Each pavilion has 10 air-conditioned rooms with private terraces and balconies, offering a breathtaking view of the Zambezi River and the incredible spectacle of the “smoke that thunders”, the name given to Victoria Falls.
The atmosphere of the resort will remain the same, but a great wind of modernity will refresh this mythical place. Fabrics and furnishings will be completely reworked, colors will be neutral and soft, and wifi will finally be installed in all rooms and common areas.
The hotel will remain open during the renovations.
