BACKLASH by Isamu Katayama “The Next Native Collection” Spring Summer 2012
For Spring-Summer 2012, Isamu Katamaya refers to the term “native” in terms of both “originating from a
place” and “Native American”.
It’s a colorful, easy-to-wear collection with tribal and rock influences.
BACKLASH’s signature pieces include rider jackets colored in green, orange or red, suede shirts in tartan print or Western style, and leather tops combined with denim bottoms
in a variety of shapes.
The famous “denim crush” has been joined by tailor-stitched jeans. Materials are lighter, threads finer, pants comfortable and elegant.
The artisanal methods used to give the leather a vintage look make the pieces both cutting-edge and up-to-the-minute.
“The Next Native Collection” is a mix of old themes adapted to new techniques and cuts.
He focuses on a handcrafted approach to leather that makes each of his pieces unique. Each piece is a work of art with a trompe l’oeil look and a revealing feel.
Here’s the collection:
To illustrate the theme “The Next Native Collection”, a dancer was present:
Japanese director Koichi MAKINO made a film in 2009 about Isamu Katamaya ‘Artisanal life’ and his passion for leather.
