a new space created by and for the artist.

often surprising and sometimes disturbing. He is renowned for his talent in depicting nude bodies or portraits painted on huge canvases. His technique is always the same: he observes the world with the help of photographs, which serve as models, and then launches into the most realistic representation of the human being. The aim of PASQUA ? To make the viewer feel the vulnerability of Man, through a quasi-compulsive painting technique. Complete artist, Philippe PASQUA also expresses himself through sculpture, producing works of profound beauty. He glorifies the ephemeral, which he approaches through vanitas. Skulls and butterflies recur frequently, the ultimate symbol of his intent. Produced in a variety of materials and formats, the surgical representation of the human being is sublimated by the presence of gold leaf or animal skins. As if to bring color and life to sculptures that may shock the sensibilities of some viewers. And it is in this contradiction that these two means of expression come together, maintaining an uncommon coherence: flesh against bone, the living against death, but in the end, it’s all about the ephemeral.
Naturally, Philippe PASQUA wanted to create a place where he could express his talent and creativity. The result was THE STORAGE, a space dedicated to artistic experimentation, innovative collective operations and his own work. This presentation and storage space features a magnificent garden, where the artist’s finest sculptures are on display. The artist has designed this space to encourage exchange and collaboration with internationally renowned artists. The aim is to offer both the general public and art collectors a concrete and realistic approach to contemporary art. Located just outside Paris, THE STORAGE is dedicated to contemporary creation in all its forms: design, new technologies, photography, architecture… However, it remains an artist’s studio, where he stores his work out of sight.
Collectors and art lovers turned out in force for the STORAGE opening evening.. It was also an opportunity to present the artist’s new “MEA CULPA” exhibition. Throughout the evening, canvases were solicited for sale, although the artist was clear “This place is an exhibition space, not for sale, nothing to sell here!”
During the evening, one work caught the attention of the guests: a Ferrari decorated and hung by Philippe PASQUA on a wall of the enclosure, the main symbol of his new exhibition. Not hiding his admiration for Bacon or Freud, he draws inspiration from these men for their sense of representation of reality. MEA CULPA resounds like a confession to the viewer, with the artist expressing his passion for human beings as much as for the material of paint, the trace of drawing and the density of sculpture. Beyond the spectacle of the images, MEA CULPA is also a questioning of the means and challenges of representing the face and body today. This is why almost every painting reveals a handicap, a difference, an obscenity, a brotherly love. Philippe PASQUA shows what can’t be shown, and here again, gets bogged down in a struggle between what is “tolerated” and what is socially repressed or obscured.
THE STORAGE represents an executor for the artist, it can store as many canvases and sculptures as he likes, without ever exhibiting them to the public. Except when he wants to, and today to discover the MEA CULPA exhibition. A place to discover with family, friends or alone. A special welcome is extended to all visitors, to help them better understand the artist’s intentions in creating this unique space. A program of group exhibitions, events and meetings will soon be unveiled. To enhance the collaboration between international painters and Philippe PASQUA, numerous artists will be regularly invited to work at STORAGE .
