Dear John is the new film adaptation of the best-seller Nicholas Sparks, already known for his novels adapted for the big screen such as Note Book (Never forget) . The scenario is quite simple: during a leave of absence a young soldier meets a young girl who is well connected. A perfect, almost platonic idyll between them follows, John must return to the front, the film then gives way to an epistolary exchange between the two lovers…
Channing Tatum plays the John in question, he was seen in G.I.Jo and CSI: Miami, and Amanda Seyfried(Mama Mia, Chloe) plays the role of the young and very wise Savannah. Dear John is an expression in itself across the Atlantic, “Dear John” refers to a missive in which a woman tells her man that she is leaving him for another man. The term comes from World War II, a time when the wives of American soldiers were often left alone at home. They wrote a letter to their former lover, which often began with “Dear John”, a very common name at the time.
Dear John has just dethroned Avatar in the USA, which remained at the top of the box office for over 7 weeks. The film just made $32.4 million.
The film will be released in France on March 31, so you might as well say that this feature film is a rose water film, a drama roudoudoudou, in short 1h30 of drama all pink and very girl. Soft, pink, nude and powdery all the trends for spring summer 2010.
In theaters March 31, 2010
