In a bold move to explore the most mysterious and little-known olfactory territories, Nissaba presents Berbera, a fragrance that celebrates the unparalleled richness of the Horn of Africa with intensity and sophistication. Berbera is a vibrant tribute to a trio of smoky incenses and iridescent spices, highlighting the olfactory treasures of Somalia: myrrh, opoponax and incense gums. Sébastien Tissot, CEO of Nissaba, stresses the importance of revealing to the world the most little-known and difficult-to-access ingredient chain, through a fragrance that evokes the age-old tradition of gemmaging trees and collecting these precious gums.
The Essence of Tradition and Innovation
Berbera embodies an olfactory bridge between past and present, where incense gums, harvested according to ancestral Somaliland methods, become ambassadors for their terroir and its fascinating history. The fragrance revolves around the varied extraction of frankincense, used at three different levels to create a unique olfactory verticality: a superfluid extract in the top note for spicy freshness, a molecular distillation in the middle note for dense warmth, and a Vulcan extract in the base note for deep leathery facets.
An Artistic Collaboration
The creation of Berbera represents a first for renowned perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, known for his love of rich, sophisticated ingredients. In collaboration with Coralie Spicher, passionate about natural essences, they form a dynamic duo, accepting the challenge of working with a restricted but powerful palette of ingredients, transforming these gums into a continuous and captivating olfactory narrative.
A commitment to naturalness and quality
With a composition of 90% natural origin, Berbera respects an ecological commitment, using certified organic French wheat alcohol. This choice illustrates Nissaba’s desire to offer fragrances that respect the environment, without compromising the quality or depth of the scents.
Availability and accessibility
Berbera will be available from mid-February 2024, with a 100 ml bottle priced at 160 euros and a refill at 135 euros. The Nissaba brand, distributed in 15 countries, confirms its presence in prestigious outlets such as Printemps Haussmann in Paris, Selfridges in London, and Bongenie Grieder in Geneva, thus affirming its status in the world of luxury perfumery.
