DIOR Collection Cruise 2020

Presented in Marrakech – the meeting point of Europe and Africa – this new cruise collection is a cultural dialogue of know-how between the House of Dior, artists and craftsmen.

For this show, Maria Grazia Chiuri, accompanied by anthropologist Anne Grosfilley, a world expert in wax, collaborated with the Uniwax company in Côte d’Ivoire, whose studio reinterpreted two motifs dear to the House: toile de Jouy and tarot cards, resulting in a special edition based on 100% African wax (the cottons being grown, spun and printed in Africa).
The Artistic Director also collaborated with a number of artists, including Grace Wales Bonner and Mickalene Thomas, each of whom creatively revisited the iconic New Look silhouette.

Another fine cultural encounter – for the scenography and a coat from the collection – was with Sumano, an association preserving the ancestral know-how of Moroccan weavers and potters. Cushions upholstered in henna-painted artisanal weavings and décor enhanced by ceramic pottery punctuated the exceptional architecture of the Palais El Badi, the show’s sumptuous setting.
