The Mauritian establishment is in tune with the key event of the year for the Hindu people, the majority on the enchanted island.
From October 18th to 25th, the Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa Mauritius is offering its guests a series of festivities in honor of the Divali festival of lights. Representing nearly 60% of the island’s population, Indo-Mauritians transform the island into an enchanted interlude for a few days, placing oil lamps outside every door. It’s a tradition with a double symbolic meaning: driving away evil and welcoming the arrival of summer. Guests of the Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa Mauritius can look forward to a week of intense, gourmet festivities.
Once again, the establishment is pulling out all the stops with themed evenings focusing on the richness of Indian gastronomy and its different provinces: Hyderabad, Punjab, Rajasthan & Gujarat. Every day of the week, guests can enjoy a typical Indian breakfast with Idli, traditional cakes from the state of Karnataka, made with black lentils and fermented rice; Poha, a dish from Maharasra, made with dried rice, potatoes, onions and spices; and the essential lentil curry called Sambar.
Every evening, guests will be treated to a new theme in the refined Indian restaurant Kangan, such as Kebab Night, where they can savour Kebabs in Indian colors, or the Indian Street Food Buffet, which will give them the impression of strolling through the streets of Bombay. The climax of the festivities will be the Divali Buffet on October 19, featuring an array of Indian specialities: Meat Beli Ram, a legendary lamb dish, Vegetable Kadhi, a spicy yoghurt speciality from northern India, or Biryani, a dish based on basmati rice, chicken, yoghurt, spices, saffron, coriander and fried onions… enough to make your mouth water.
Enjoy a local cocktail or the traditional Indian lassie to the sound of the evening’s musical entertainment: Bollywood DJs, live Indian and African bands or Sega, the local dance… a unique journey.
