It was during our recent trip to Montreal for Fashion Preview that we discovered Montreal’s best-known brand.
A Montreal label established over 25 years ago, Maison Marie Saint Pierre is a veritable institution, well on its way to becoming one of Canada’s leading luxury houses. The importance of its creator’s work was recognized at the recent Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, with the Prix d’Excellence awarded to a designer who has distinguished him/herself throughout his/her career. Marie Saint Pierre’s approach to luxury is artistic, intellectual and innovative. Her creations are based on extensive research and development, with a focus on garment functionality, favoring the employment of local artisans for 100% Made in Montréal production.
Nordic-inspired styling, clean, graphic lines, the play of movement of clothing on a motionless body… The Canadian designer has not finished stirring up fashion on the other side of the Channel.
For the Autumn/Winter 2016 season, Marie Saint Pierre has chosen 2 inspirations.
Autumn: Chrysalide. Uniform informality inspired by plural femininity, shy and assertive. It’s a collection full of subtlety and nuance, but also made up of marked oppositions: a mix of opacity and transparency, fluidity and hold, half-pastel, half-acidulous, volume and lightness.
Winter: A fleur de peau. A romanticism of watercolor and concrete, tulle and leather, light and dark. The Atelier collection challenges our concept of poetry. With a beauty that’s anything but naive, it creates a tension between the simple and the elaborate, the opaque and the light, the classic and the modern.
A daring, sensory experience worthy of Marie Saint Pierre.
