THE JOURNEY OF THE SENSES
Established for over a century at 68 of the world’s most beautiful avenue, the legendary Guerlain boutique on the Champs-Elysées reopened its doors at the end of 2013, following a complete renovation by American architect Peter Marino.
It was against this backdrop that Laurent Boillot, CEO of Guerlain, imagined a union between Thierry Wasser, the House’s “nose”, and Guy Martin, the celebrated chef. Two masters of their respective arts, each practicing a passionate profession, they have brought to life an extraordinary restaurant, an invitation to travel at the crossroads of taste and smell.
“ I’m crazy about perfume, it’s a parallel universe to cooking: noses do real product research, like me,” says Guy Martin, whose mother wore Shalimar, the House’s signature fragrance.
“We travel to the four corners of the world to find the finest ingredients, so we share the same values of excellence,” adds Thierry Wasser.
With respect for tradition and the seasonal nature of the products he chooses, Guy Martin imagines a contemporary cuisine for Guerlain that invades the senses and lets the imagination soar towards exotic, faraway dreams. A blend of sweet, salty, acid and bitter, it is in the harmony and subtlety of flavors that the chef expresses his art.
To prolong the voyage, there’s nothing like a detour to the Comptoir des Délices and indulge in, among other delicacies, La Petite Robe Noire – chocolate cookie with red fruit ganache, praline and chocolate crunch – .
All that’s left to do is cross the boutique and take the sublime marble staircase to 68 Guy Martin, a sensory showcase with a glamorous, convivial, foral décor for a timeless Parisian moment.
