To mark its 250th anniversary in 2014, Baccarat presents the exhibition“Baccarat. Les 250 ans” at the Galerie Musée de la Maison Baccarat in Paris. A retrospective exhibition unveiling nearly 250 masterpieces elevated to iconic status over 250 years of history, culture, know-how and unforgettable moments.
Since 1764, Baccarat has been writing its fabulous destiny in sparkling letters. Founded in Lorraine, on the authorization of King Louis XV, the world’s most illustrious crystal Manufacture has stood the test of time to become a symbol of excellence and Art de Vivre. Baccarat, a name that echoes of exceptional pieces, extraordinary locations and unforgettable parties. This is evidenced by the large table at the entrance to the exhibition, displaying some of the most prestigious creations commissioned by the world’s greatest names.
The tour is organized around five major themes, embodying the signature of the legendary brand.
The Harcourt icon
The perfect expression of Baccarat expertise, Harcourt glass, inspired by the ceremonial chalice engraved with the royal monogram commissioned by King Louis-Philippe of France, was created in 1841. A legend is born. This icon of excellence and elegance was adopted by Napoleon III, Pope John Paul II, the Queen of Siam and the King of Morocco, among others, adorning their prestigious tables and transforming every moment of life into an unforgettable experience. A timeless object of desire and a source of infinite inspiration, it has been reinterpreted over the years. Thanks to its perfect silhouette, it transforms every event into an elegant and refined celebration. Eclectic, it adapts to all tastes and styles, as reflected in its long history.
Highly colorful
As early as 1839, Baccarat set itself apart with its colored pieces, and the range of shades offered has continued to expand ever since. Baccarat’s mastery of color-lined crystal also marked a milestone in the company’s history. This technique, still in use today, will be applied to extremely sophisticated pieces, such as the sublime creations by Ettore Sottsass on display. The crystal bursts into a dazzling firework display, a veritable explosion of color, symbolizing a chromatic palette that is infinitely varied.
Le Rouge à l’Or
The power of red in gold lies in the magic of a fusion between clear crystal and 24-carat gold powder, giving the material that vermilion incandescence: Baccarat red crystal shimmers in a cameo of a thousand lights, from the pinkest to the most amaranthine, whose shimmer reveals expertise as much as passion. The highest expression, ruby red, is displayed in the pair of majestic “Simon” vases created for the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Virtuosos of know-how / At the cutting edge of perfection
Baccarat creations perpetuate elegance as well as excellence in craftsmanship. Know-how at the forefront of progress, handed down over the centuries by an elite group of craftsmen and reflecting an incomparable heritage. Blowers, cutters, engravers and gilders apply their inimitable talent to the service of perfection. Each timeless masterpiece is the very embodiment of man’s breath, transporting us on an emotional journey between light and creation. Each decanter, each glass, each vase, each bottle, each chandelier embodies an ultimate promise, an experience to be lived and, above all, shared.
