They’re in the league of international champions of fashion photography: Swedish artists Denise Grünstein, Julia Hetta, Martina Hoogland Ivanow, Julia Peirone and Elisabeth Toll have been spotted by international magazines, art institutions and galleries. These photographers explore and shift boundaries, creating atmospheres that bewitch us. Their art is a balancing act between fashion and artistic photography, drawing its roots from art history and personal experience.

Denise Grunstein ‘s non-conformist photographs show how she masters the switch between atmosphere in her own creations and works of commission. Her work revolves around the theme of women and nature, representing her playground – a visual universe unique to the artist, powerful and evocative.

Julia Hetta‘s romantic, timeless images, published in magazines such as l’autre, Dazed & Confused and Harper ‘s Bazaar, show an alternative world inhabited by mysterious, omniscient beings, moving slowly in a place where the light is always soft, but imbued with a sense of impatience. The colors are so saturated and the textures so real they make you want to touch them.

Martina Hoogland Ivanow ‘s photographs are unique. They give the viewer the sensation of a presence that is both real and poetic, combined with an aesthetic that is both menacing and hypnotic. Each image behaves like a novel. The photographer collects shadows and mists whose imprecision is precisely what gives them their strength. She works for clients such as Prada, Miu Miu, Philip Lim and Bergdorf Goodman.

Julia PEIRONE is a master at capturing moments beyond our control. Her images seem unflattering, for example in her series of portraits of young girls transitioning into womanhood.

Elisabeth Toll, who works for French, German and Russian Vogue, says “If there’s no light, I see nothing”. Her photographs are inspired by personal memories, stories, impressions and sensations that she relives and shares with us. These images arouse curiosity through their close connection with architecture and their dashboard of surrealism.
