Until 30 October, the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen is exhibiting works by Xu Ying created between 2021 and 2026, curated by Sukie Chen. The exhibition is at the centre of the hotel’s thirteenth anniversary.
The artist. Xu Ying trained at the Royal College of Art in London and is among the ten emerging artists distinguished by the UCCA Lab x Perrier initiative in China. Her practice spans painting, installation, sound sculpture, moving image and performance.
The hanging. The exhibition, titled The Dimension of Echo: Memory, Flow and Spiritual Landscapes, brings together oil on canvas and mixed-media works centred on memory and emotion. The announced media are therefore painting and mixed media. Sound sculpture and moving image, which form part of her practice, are not mentioned among the works on display.
The venue. It is held in the hotel’s Executive Club Lounge, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., from 4 September to 30 October 2026. Guests with lounge access may visit it at any opening hour. The conditions for other visitors are not specified.
What to look for. A hotel exhibition is judged on simple things: the number of pieces, the light, and the presence of labels and a curatorial text that make it possible to follow five years of work. A club lounge is not designed for this.
What is established: an identified artist, a curator, a defined period of creation and a schedule. What remains to be established: the number of works, the place of sound sculpture and moving image, and access for the non-resident public.
