The In the Canopies program is set to accompany one hundred classes throughout the 2026-2027 school year. Guides, notebooks and workshops give pedagogical shape to the partnership between Forestami and Prada Group.
The urban canopy is seen from the ground, but its role can remain abstract. With In the Canopies, Forestami Academy proposes to address it at school: one hundred fourth- and fifth-grade primary classes across the Milan metropolitan area are set to take part in the program in 2026-2027.
A Year Rather Than a Single Encounter
Prada Group, a partner of Forestami, presented the initiative on September 14. Designed with La Fabbrica SB, the program combines a teacher’s guide, a notebook tracked month by month, and workshops led by scientific facilitators. The activities focus on trees, their canopy cover, and their relationships with urban life.
The choice of the school-year calendar is significant. It allows, in principle, revisiting an observation and comparing it to another. Transmission then becomes progressive work, whose record is preserved by the material, rather than a message received during a single session.
Giving the Means to Observe
The value of such a partnership must be sought in what it makes possible for students and teachers. A notebook can help formulate a question, note a transformation, and connect a nearby experience to a broader phenomenon. Its use still needs to find its place in the classroom, and the resources need to be suited to it.
The announced number of classes describes the program’s ambition; it does not measure learning. That will require separate follow-up, with data on participation and the understanding gained.
For a company supporting an educational initiative, this distinction is essential. The visibility of the partnership is immediate, whereas the shaping of an eye takes time. In the Canopies can be judged over that span: what children will be able to observe, explain and question once the year is over.
