From Marlon Brando to Ryan Gosling, platinum blonde and tattooed in “A place beyond the pines”, and not forgetting the mythical Easy Rider, the figure of the “biker” is ever-present in the history of cinema. Perpetuating with him the image of a man liberated from society, letting himself be guided by his desires; bandana tied around his neck. This rebel inspired more than just film-makers: stylists and designers adopted his wardrobe as the basis for timeless pieces. Boots, blazer ….allons tame the road.
Christian Dada: that says it all. In the spirit of Dada’s provocation and rupture, the collections of the designer – whose brand was founded in 2010 – play with fashion conventions and classic pieces, constructing garments as elements of protest, as banners for a new aesthetic. So it seems only natural that the designer should tackle the dark figure of this leather rebel.
Resisting the decline, remembering that beyond the 24-hour news channels, the sofa, the TV and the mortgage, there are independent men who live by other ideals. The state of mind of a modern Brando. Leather cap, ankle-high jeans, boots, perfecto jackets or bombers. Without having seen the film, we know the image and what it means. Christian Dada takes it up again, and reworks the leathers with traditional embroidery by Japan’s Yokoburi and jacquard appliqués by Nishijin. A masculine silhouette that reveals a certain fragility. Rebel, yes, but borrowed from the torments of his generation.
Whether it’s the Dada movement or Marlon Brando, the young designer is inspired by the precursors of protest. A masterful reference, this collection is a fine tribute to them all.
