Château Pédesclaux 2020: A Vintage that Redefines Excellence in Pauillac

The year 2020 marked a turning point for Château Pédesclaux, an emblematic Pauillac estate known for its wines of exceptional quality. This vintage, described as extreme, began with the mildest winter since 1854 and the rainiest in two decades, followed by a summer of high temperatures. Despite these difficult climatic conditions, the vineyard managed to pull through, thanks to expert management of mildew and a resolutely organic approach.

The decision to manage the vineyard organically was a key factor in the success of this vintage. This choice stimulated the soil’s microbiological life, strengthening the vines’ natural resistance and allowing the 360,000 vines on the estate to flourish to the full. This approach not only respects the environment, but also promotes the authentic expression of the Pauillac terroir.

Château Pédesclaux 2020, a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, reflects this harmony between tradition and modernity. Aged for 16 months in barrels, 60% of which are new and 40% one-wine, this vintage stands out for its aromatic complexity, silky tannins and vibrant freshness. Vinification was meticulously meticulous, incorporating innovative practices such as placing the grapes in a cold room before sorting and cold pre-fermentation maceration.

The result is a wine that is not only a testament to the 2020 wine year, but also an expression of the expertise and passion that drive Château Pédesclaux. This 2020 vintage, full of balance and refinement, confirms that the Pédesclaux estate continues to reinvent and surprise, while remaining true to the essence of Pauillac.

Château Pédesclaux 2020 is available from wine merchants at the recommended retail price of €47, an opportunity for fine wine lovers to discover a landmark vintage from the Pauillac region.
