Vivienne Westwood puts her art to work for the environment for the AW 2104 / 2015 collection
Vivienne Westwood, one of the most iconic figures of British punk-rock fashion in the 70’s, reclaims the influence of English culture and history on her designs.
These collections are modern adaptations of historic garments.
Vvienne Westwood’s personality shines through in each of her pieces and evolves throughout her collections, offering purists the world over a breathless desire for creative and personal discovery.
Poetic, refined and colorful, the Fall/Winter 2014/15 collection, like its predecessors, tends to be fabulous and committed.
The pieces are steeped in history, shaped by Worth, a 19th-century British couturier whose most loyal customers included the Empress Eugenie and the Princess of Metternich. These clothes were worn by Parisian high society and the aristocracy of the day, who flocked to the balls.
In keeping with the Worth spirit, the Fall/Winter 2014/15 collection combines elegant, poetic and refined silk, embroidered motifs and fine lace with traditional Peruvian costumes from the Ashaninka tribe.
Following a trip to Peru in 2013, Vivienne Westwood discovered the Ashaninka tribe, and was inspired by their traditional brown and royal blue jewelry.
For this season, the designer highlights military green for the fight to save the environment and Worth tulle representing morning mist. Classic cuts are modernized by a play of textures and colors: feathers, embroidered tulle and tartan fabrics mingle with XXL hats à la Pharell Williams. The Vivienne Westwood woman is feminine, charismatic, classic and quirky. The pieces are practical and allow free movement, a perfect match with the expectations of the modern woman.
Dressing women in her art is not the end of Vivienne Westwood’s work, and she uses the catwalk to show her commitment.
A fervent political activist, she also uses the clothes she designs to get her message across. Touched by the Ashaninka people, who pay particular attention to the forest in which they live, the collection is committed to their cause through “Cool Earth”.
Cool Earth is a charity working alongside indigenous villages to stop the destruction of rainforests. Their goal is to save three important equatorial forests by 2020.
According to Vivienne Westwood and her husband Andreas Kronthaler, the organization is on the right track thanks to you.
