After the huge ratings success of season 1, Maison Close is back on Canal.
The encrypted channel had the good idea of gathering the press in a Montmartre cinema for a screening of the first two episodes of season 2. We then headed to Pigalle’s Café Carmen for a chat with the film’s team.On the program for season 2: sets and costumes as meticulous as ever, charismatic filles de joie and newcomers who give the series a new direction. Season 1 was set against the volatile backdrop of the Commune in 1871, but here we are in 1873 with a conservative Republic anxious to return to moral order. To resist the demands of the new Chief Inspector Torcy, head of the vice squad, and retain the freedom they fought so hard to achieve in season 1, Véra, Rose and the other Paradise girls decide, in agreement with Hortense, to join forces with a gang of thugs.

The main arrival was Michaël Cohen, who was very enthusiastic about joining the new season. He had seen the first season, liked it and “went for it”, he told us. He was convinced by one of the two directors: Mabrouk el Melchri. He confided to us that he was a little “fed up with the roles of young leads”, but we felt he was totally fulfilled. He brilliantly plays Mosca, a dandy bandit.Rose’s character has hardened. Marked by years in prison, she has become politicized. Vera, played by Anne Charrier, is as magnetic as ever, in the throes of existential doubt. Also noteworthy is the arrival of Aurélien Wiik, who plays a doctor steeped in Marxist ideas.

Season 2 has become an “urban Western in which the brothel serves as a saloon in which sheriffs and bandits come face to face”, according to C. Ducrocq and F. Philippon, the scriptwriters. The men are more present, giving the story a new tone.
In short, this second season is just as well-made as the first. There are some lengthy passages and the use of music is a little confusing. Nonetheless, it’s a real pleasure to watch the highly aesthetic shots and impeccable actors and actresses.
Come on in!
