The Palais Galliera is the fashion museum of the City of Paris. It faces the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Palais de Tokyo. Its collections are among the richest in the world, reflecting French dress codes and habits from the 18thcentury to the present day. The Palais Galliera, closed for renovation, reopens its doors to the public on September 28. On this special occasion, Galliera will present the first Parisian retrospective of the famous couturier Azzedine Alaïa. A selection of seventy Ionic models retrace Azzedine Alaïa’s unique creative path.
From 1979, when he presented his very first collection, encouraged by Thierry Muggler, to the present day, this exhibition celebrates this extraordinary designer, one of the few to master every stage in the creation of a garment. By inventing new morphologies through the simple interplay of complex seams, Alaïa became the couturier of a body of work that stands the test of time. His influence on contemporary fashion is fundamental.
Azzedine Alaïa prefers clothes that last to those that fade with the seasons. With this retrospective, his creations will remain etched in history forever.
