Carita brings haute coiffure back to the fore

Carita chose its address at 11 Faubourg Saint-Honoré to bring haute coiffure back into the light, the founding craft of the house created by the sisters Rosy and Maria Carita. The evening brought together Catherine Deneuve, Kelly Rutherford and Virginie Ledoyen, among others, but its most interesting subject lay in the gesture itself: the cut, the fringe and the work on hair as a creative material.

A fringe bar occupied the space alongside the evening’s other activities. This detail gives concrete form to the announced return of haute coiffure. Rather than treating hair as the discreet extension of make-up or clothing, Carita places it back within a visible practice, where transformation depends on the intervention of a professional.

The event also accompanied the launch of Hair Rejuvenic, the house’s new hair collection. Its effects remain to be tested; the link with haute coiffure, however, helps explain the overall logic: connecting a contemporary product to a historic savoir-faire.

The editorial stakes go beyond the evening. Haute coiffure has a memory, techniques and signatures. Its value is measured by what a hand can do in front of a mirror, far more than by the mere presence of personalities around it.
