After gold, carbon and then rose gold, Bvlgari dresses its Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar in monochrome blue titanium for the first time. A change of shade that, in ultra-thin watchmaking, looks like a calculated risk.
A record that no longer needed proving
Since 2021, the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar has held the world record for the thinnest titanium watch in its category, receiving the Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. At this stage, Bvlgari has nothing left to prove technically: the house could have simply reissued the same model indefinitely, varying the precious materials, as it did in 2023 with gold and carbon, then in 2025 with rose gold.
Yet the choice of vivid blue titanium, paired with a matching slim leather strap, changes the nature of the exercise: it is no longer about proving a performance, but embracing a stronger, almost casual visual presence for a complication that remains one of the most sophisticated in Haute Horlogerie.
Blue as restraint, not excess
The blue titanium case with PVD coating is paired with a grey rhodium-plated dial and indices, in a contrast the house describes as “subtle”. The steel crown completes this harmony of shades while allowing the perpetual calendar to be set. The result is a watch Bvlgari presents as “incredibly versatile”, suited to everyday wear as well as formal occasions—a versatility that would have seemed almost incongruous for so rare a complication just a decade ago.
The Octo Finissimo, the house’s permanent testing ground
This new shade forms part of a broader strategy: to make the Octo Finissimo collection, and particularly the 37 mm model with its rethought proportions, Bvlgari’s permanent stylistic laboratory, where materials, colours and formats are tested before sometimes feeding into the rest of the collection. The Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum, mentioned in the same communication, extends this ongoing exploration of the limits of thinness.
It remains to be seen whether this measured but genuine chromatic boldness signals a wider diversification of the visual codes of men’s Haute Horlogerie—or whether it will remain a one-off exercise, reserved for pieces that already have nothing left to prove.
