Maje’s Autumn-Winter 2021 collection opts for freedom. Freedom to play with well-established codes, freedom of movement and of the body, as a call to the new natural.
The trend is towards the English countryside, revised and corrected by a youth ready to emancipate itself. We leave our cottage in a certain fluidity, preppy but confident, in loose-fitting sweaters and quilted down jackets, in tweed that liberates rather than constricts. Balaclavas and combat boots take on the role of encanailler.
Autumn browns and khakis take center stage, punctuated by touches of bright color. Oranges, greens, pastels and sky blues, sometimes combined, brighten up this season’s knitwear. On contact, you’ll find them soft and enveloping, over jeans with holes, a little fitted dress or military leggings: no diktat, more opportunities to express your femininity.
Jackets and coats follow this desire for wide-open spaces. Nothing too fitted, giving the silhouette a breath of fresh air. Faux furs lose a little structure, pants and shorts give legs new means of expression, tops play with just the right proportions. When shorts borrow their freedom of movement from sport, we twist them into quilted denim, boyish feminized. Everywhere, small collars are considered oversized, impactful yet charming.
Winter 21 will therefore be effortless, imbued with a sensual nonchalance that’s welcome but always held. The right balance is struck between structure and the need for openness.
