Until the end of January 2019, the Golden Promise Whisky Bar is donning the colors of Taiwanese distillery Kavalan. On the first floor, immerse yourself in the jungle thanks to a lush and spectacular decor. Enjoy a tasting of Kavalan Distillery Select, one of the brand’s new releases. All the distillery’s bottlings and ranges will also be available for sale in the same space. Continue the Made in Taiwan experience in the basement: the bar area of the Golden Promise is adding new 100% Kavalan cocktails to its menu! For the most demanding connoisseurs, Single Cask expressions will also be available in the tasting room through two themed “verticals”. The “Whisky Chronicles” versions, selected and bottled exclusively for La Maison du Whisky, and a flight dedicated to expressions aged in sherry casks. Throughout these weeks, Kavalan will be offering exceptional events to bring the place to life. For example, Jakub, head bartender at London’s famous Tea Room Bun House, will be invited to take charge of the Golden Promise on November 27 and 28, and will propose a menu of original cocktails created specifically for Kavalan on this occasion! Golden Promise will also be taking part in Paris Cocktail Week with Kavalan.

In 2006, the island of Taiwan put itself on the world map as a whisky producer. Under the impetus of the King Car group, Taiwan’s first distillery opened its doors in Yi-Lan province, north-east of Taiwan, and is committed to producing whisky with an inimitable style, drawing on the best experts in the industry. Named Kavalan after an ancient local tribe renowned for its agricultural culture, the distillery strikes a balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The fruity, floral, fresh and subtly spicy profile of Kavalan Single Malt is due to the use of unsmoked malted barley from Scotland and a particularly short toast heart cut. Ian Chang, the distillery’s master blender, captures the purest of the distillate and draws from it the aromas that make Kavalan a great signature, between richness and elegance.The subtropical climate of the Taiwanese island is undoubtedly the factor of excellence from which Kavalan draws all its uniqueness. Located in the northeast of Taiwan and cradled by a microclimate, the province of Yi-Lan offers a landscape of contrasts, between verdant mountains and fertile plains. Protected by the 3886-metre-high Snow Mountains and traversed by the misty influences of the Pacific, the Kavalan distillery site enjoys constant coolness and ventilation conducive to whisky ageing, and Kavalan single casks have quickly made a name for themselves, winning numerous awards. The IWSC named KAVALAN “Whisky Producer of the Year” in 2016 and 2017, and “Distillery of the Year” in 2017, the year in which the distillery acquired five additional pairs of stills, enabling it to reach 9 million liters of pure alcohol distilled each year.

This elegant, must-have single malt celebrates the expertise of Kavalan’s Master Blender following numerous awards: 2018 Icons of Whiskey Distiller of the Year, “World Brand Ambassador 2017”, as well as the 2015 World Whiskies Awards “Distillery Manager and Master Distiller of the Year”. In this unique whisky, Master Blender Ian Chang has created a pure, delicate whisky to satisfy both whisky lovers and connoisseurs.Featuring Kavalan’s characteristic fruity sweetness, Distillery Select has been aged in quality casks to reveal rich butterscotch and vanilla notes that intensify in a long, full-bodied finish. Supple and very smooth, enjoyed in cocktails or neat, this single malt offers an extremely pleasurable experience to savor. Profile: Balanced, fruity and floral. Nose: Delicate and silky. Complex. Notes of ripe tropical fruit, fragrant flowers and vanilla. Palate: Elegant, perfectly balanced and smooth. Rich, complex flavors of butterscotch, toffee and vanilla.Finish: Long, smooth and creamy. Multiple aromas open up, releasing malt and sweetness on the palate, and intensifying into a long finish.

Elegant and mellow, Kavalan Single Malt is the range’s signature reference. Blended from 8 different casks (Bourbon, Refilled Bourbon, Sherry Oloroso, Refilled Sherry Oloroso, four wine casks: Californian, Portuguese, Spanish and Australian), it seduces with its fresh, gourmet aromas of orchid, exotic fruit and vanilla. The shape of the bottle is reminiscent of the Taipei Tower, once the world’s tallest.Profile: Fresh, fruity and floral.

KAVALAN CONCERTMASTER 40%, 50cl
Aged in port casks, Kavalan Concert Master is a blend of different vintages aged first in American oak, then in ruby, tawny and vintage port casks. Highlighting Kavalan’s unique character, but without compromising its natural harmony, this highly acclaimed cuvée is a rich, gourmet single malt. Profile: Rich and exotic.
