With its longstanding and passionate involvement in equestrian sports, the Swiss watch brand presents The Longines Equestrian Pocket Watch Jockey 1878, an 18-carat pink gold pocket watch replica of a model equipped with the first chronograph created by Longines. Produced in a very limited series of 20 numbered pieces, this timepiece features an engraving on the back depicting a jockey and his mount.
In 1878, the Swiss watch brand Longines developed its first chronograph movement using new mechanical processes. This timepiece made it possible to measure performance to the nearest second, and by the end of the 19th century, it had earned Longines a place of choice on American racetracks. The purpose of the watch’s production was crystallized in one of the first series of models to feature a jockey accompanied by his mount. This chronograph is the first milestone in a long history that has seen the Swiss watch brand associated with renowned show jumping institutions, races and competitions around the world. Today, Longines is reissuing this exceptional timepiece.
This pocket watch in 18-carat pink gold features an engraving on the caseback depicting a jockey and his mount, symbols of elegance, tradition and performance, the brand’s core values. At its heart is a hand-wound movement with a column-wheel chronograph mechanism, produced exclusively for Longines. This can be activated by a single pusher on the winding crown. The caliber’s blued steel column wheel can be admired by opening the engraved cover. The metal Lépine pocket-watch that served as inspiration for this reissue is kept at the Longines Museum in Saint-Imier.
A historic testimony to the close ties between Longines and equestrian sports, this extraordinary model is produced in a very limited edition, each one numbered. With a diameter of 55 mm, it displays hours, minutes and small seconds at 6 o’clock with elegant blued steel hands. The central chronograph hand also enables split-second timing. The white dial features large Roman numerals and a minute track with Arabic numerals. The bezel is finely crafted in the image of the inspiration model.
