Last March saw the launch of “the shot”, a gigantic photographic competition open to young fashion photographers from all over the world. The organizers were Hugo Boss and W Magazine. A total of 1,500 contestants posted their photos on a website created for the event. This original idea enables new young photographic talent to emerge on the international scene.

There are few competitions that allow these key players in the fashion world to make a name for themselves and be noticed by the greatest designers. Fashion photographers are part of the dream sold in magazines, creating legendary shots and sublimating models through their artistic originality. Hugo Boss and W Magazine understand this and have decided to support this new generation.

Each candidate had to be a beginner and post three shots on the site. For the occasion, Internet users were invited to vote for their favorite shots. The jury was made up of magazine editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi, Hugo Boss fashion art director Jason Wu, fashion photographers, Charlotte Cotton, curator of the International Center of Photography, and W Magazine photo director Esmé René.

The winner of the competition will be able to shoot a series of fashion photos for W Magazine and the next Hugo Boss collection. It’s easy to see why this event has been so popular, as the prize is a prestigious one for all these beginners. A whole new generation of passionate designers, steeped in this new image culture, will be able to express themselves.

The overall winner of “The Shot” is 26-year-old English photographer Agnès Lloyd Platt. Based in London, this artist is bursting with energy, with a photographic style that is colorful, vitaminized, joyful and full of optimism. Her world is highly diversified, with shots of body parts, hair, unusual poses, unexpected settings and objects. Her modernity and aesthetic sense won over Internet users and a very demanding jury. To be followed in her first steps as a photographer this coming September 2016.
