WOOYOUNGMI Spring Summer 2015

The new WOOYOUNGMI collection is the work of a duo: mother and daughter worked hand in hand for this very first collaboration. Katie Chung, daughter of founder and designer Woo Youngmi, is Associate Artistic Director.

This collection is based on the attitude of a carefree, party-loving young man for whom the constraints of the 35-hour work week do not exist. He wanders between the sun-drenched coastline and the calm of a shady street. His “take it or leave it” attitude makes him an incorrigible seducer. With a floppy hat on his head and a parka tied around his hips, his style knows no bounds; he wears his favorite printed T-shirt under a finely tailored jacket. For the moment, his dreams of becoming an artist are absorbed by his lifestyle, which is already an art in itself.

The sporty silhouette is combined with a calm, serene attitude, while the silk and viscose of the pieces add a touch of luxury to the ensemble. The prints are more masculine, influenced by Lichtenstein’s 1930s motifs and stitch techniques. A second motif, similar to the movement of waves on sand, reflects the influences of abstract art on the collection.

Materials include silk, linen, viscose, cotton and lambskin, which accentuate the body’s movements, while the collection’s blues and pastels recall the colors of Miami at dusk.
