Over the past few days, the Grand Palais has been hosting an exceptional exhibition: Cartier, one of the world’s leading jewelry houses, has brought together its most remarkable objects. From fine jewelry to watches and mysterious clocks, the most beautiful pieces have been brought together, giving Cartier an undisputed place in the world of Decorative Arts.
It’s not for nothing that Cartier has been dubbed the “jeweler of kings”, as the exhibition dazzles us from the outset with an assortment of tiaras worn by the greatest. You’ll see them sparkle, and start your visit with stars in your eyes.
You can browse through Cartier’s history, from its naturalist imagery, including the famous panther, the brand’s emblem, to the jewelry of famous actresses, such as Grace Kelly or Maria Félix and her diamond crocodiles. With all these jewels, you’ll discover the different influences and styles the brand has adopted over the years.
The most notable pieces? The magnificent set of the Maharaja of Patiala, which contains one of the world’s largest yellow diamonds; a rose-shaped brooch with a pink diamond, on loan from the Queen of England herself; and finally, a tiara commissioned by George VI, King of England, which his daughter Elizabeth II received for her eighteenth birthday. This is the same tiara that Kate Middleton wore for her wedding to Prince William in 2011!
The gala dinner was held on December 2 in the presence of Cartier International President and CEO Stanislas de Quercize, Monica Bellucci, Kristin Scott Thomas and His Serene Highness The Prince of Monaco.
