Selman Marrakech named best hotel in Africa in 2013

At the foot of the Atlas mountains, untouched by the hustle and bustle of the medina, what seemed like a mirage has become reality: Selman Marrakech, a palace with a singular atmosphere, sublime and endearing. Past the huge portico, the eye wanders to the far reaches of the property, where the geometry of the facades and gardens punctuated by fountains create a sublime harmony. Through the Mechouar, the traveler enters the salons, a sensual counterpoint to the excessiveness of the exterior. Designed by Jacques Garcia and built by the finest craftsmen, Selman seduces with its timeless harmony. It emerges like a memory, awakening our orientalist imagination. An intimate, personal family estate, where every traveler shares the joys, loves and dreams of its passionate, warm-hearted hosts. In this timeless palace, built by masterly hands, the art of Marrakchi hospitality comes to life. Precious moments magnified by the presence of the Arab thoroughbreds that are Selman’s soul and an invitation to enjoy life to the full. From the room terraces and gardens, you can watch the majestic ballet of these horses. Pure moments of grace that complete the unique experience of this timeless stay.

The Selman Marrakech luxury hotel has been named best hotel in Africa in 2013. This distinction was awarded to this prestigious palace by the jury of the Villégiature 2013 prize, which for the last 10 years has been rewarding the best hotels in Europe, but also in Africa and Asia in recent years.

Designed in its entirety by Jacques Garcia and newly managed by Christian Langlade, this sublime hotel reflects the soul and culture of Morocco. The hotel’s delicious cuisine, traditional hammam, Spa Chénot and sumptuous decor are complemented by the rare addition of a stud farm housing some fifteen Arabian thoroughbreds.

On the initiative of owner Abdeslam Bennani Smires, Selman was built around this passion for horses, the noble animal par excellence. Horses are a cultural and historical symbol for Moroccans. The Arabian thoroughbred fascinates and contributes to the unique atmosphere of the 5* hotel (Selman refers to the father of the stud’s thoroughbred bloodline).

Facing the Andalusian pavilion and bordering the pond, the stud farm comprises two large stables, also designed by Jacques Garcia. 16 boxes house the various horses (Arabian thoroughbreds, trail horses, ponies for children) as well as magnificent outdoor facilities. Released to roam freely in the gardens surrounded by canopies, the Selman breeding farm horses are at home, to the delight of our guests.
