Alberto Zambelli builds a room around the body

For Spring-Summer 2027, Alberto Zambelli names his collection The Room. The reference to Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own serves as the starting point for a question of cut: how can a garment create around the body a space of its own, without isolating or constraining it?

The answer lies in light volumes and in the air left between skin and fabric. The house likens this research to the place of emptiness in Chinese painting. This is not to infer a demonstrated cultural kinship, but to understand the formal principle put forward by the designer: the apparent lack of material can become an active part of the silhouette.

Lime-coloured technical wool, irregular pleats in tones of ink and sulphur, striped jacquard cotton and silk make up this supple architecture. Lines round off, take cocoon-like shapes or borrow from the kimono a fluidity that accompanies movement. Pearl-effect sequins introduce a measured light into the whole.

The Room convinces above all through the precision of its question. A portable “room” is worth something only if it remains habitable: if the volumes preserve a real freedom for the body, the literary reference ceases to be a title and becomes a method.
