Known as the “Four Treasures of the Scholar’s Study”: brush, ink, paper and inkstone are the emblematic and constitutive elements of Chinese culture and history.
Five thousand years ago, during the Neolithic era, the Chinese were already crushing stones or mixing materials to leave traces for their descendants. The inkstone appeared during the Warring Kingdoms period.
The Shiatzy Chen AH 2014-15 collection draws its inspiration from this very special “ink stone” – its shape, materials and colors. The collection follows the rhythm of the stone, estimates the nuance of its intensity and lightness, senses its subtleties, and marks its presence.
Inkstone is the perfect ground for bringing out all shades of color. In lighter tones, colors are like the traces of a smile or a budding rose. In luminous tones, they are as dynamic as peonies. In intense tones, they’re like mysterious moss.
Inkstone is as flamboyant as a proud black swan, as elegant as a lakeside landscape, as calm as the mountain in the clouds. It is as mysterious as a deep ravine or as transparent as a shallow pond.
The surfaces are silky and shiny, while the layers of metallic grains sparkle throughout. Inkstone echoes the colors of life, telling illustrated tales that explore every nuance of emotion.
However, this inkstone doesn’t forget the colors, with pastel pink, aquamarine, magenta and lime.
For the material, wool is sublimated, whether on wool double faces, wool satins, long-staple wool or wool laces. There are also numerous flower embroideries and satin prints.
Shiatzy Chen also showcases its accessories: inkstone and jade are transformed into geometric handbag handles.
