From June 12, 2014, the Musée du Louvre’s boutique bookshop will host a collection by designer Christian Lacroix, which will be offered exclusively in the famous museum.
The Lacroix collection includes a stole, scarf, jewelry and decorative objects inspired by great works from the Louvre Museum’s Department of Islamic Art. Christian Lacroix speaks very respectfully of these works:
“There are some invitations that just can’t be refused, especially when they seem to have taken the path of chance that are not.
It was in the heart of the Cour Visconti, at the Louvre Museum, that I learned what little I know about Islamic art. of Islam.
Forty years ago, almost to the day, when I was still imagining myself as a museum curator, before leaving the right path to design, which today brings me back to the collections of the Louvre.
Neither a plagiarism nor a replica of the exceptional pieces now displayed in the majestic wing designed by Ricciotti and Bellini, the few objects I have designed for the museum are inspired both faithfully, respectfully and freely from the treasures of the Pavilion of Islamic Arts, an inexhaustible source of inspiration and influence of inspiration and influence for Western art for generations enamored of the Orient. These scarves, jewels and ceramics do not claim to contain the quintessence of the works presented, but simply to be a reflection of them to take home. but simply a reflection to take away”.
