Paradoxically, this very old house, established for centuries in Ay in the heart of Champagne’s finest Pinot Noir crus, had not yet produced a Blanc de Noirs cuvée.
Made from Premier Cru and Grand Cru grapes, some of which come from the company’s own vineyards, this new cuvée is launched with the very fine 2008 vintage. With its intense, fresh and mineral expression, it once again demonstrates Philipponnat ‘s expertise in the blending and vinification of pinot noir.
To the eye, a medium gold color, fine, creamy bubbles, persistent cordon.
To the nose, the authentic expression of Pinot Noir with spicy, peppery notes mingling with acacia flower honey. An intense, complex nose.
Ample and mineral, the palate expresses the vinosity and fruit typical of Pinot Noir. Very clear structure, with volume on the palate and very long aromatic persistence on spicy, peppery notes.
According to the cellar master, this 2008 vintage is “marked by rain and cold. Nevertheless, the harvest produced wines of excellent concentration, thanks to the warmth and sunshine of September. .”
