Designer Lan Yu presented her fall-winter 2016 collection at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild.
The show was transformed into a majestic ball, with silhouettes dancing and twirling to a waltz of details.
The star of the day is undoubtedly paper-cutting. It’s one of the most emblematic of traditional Chinese arts, used in particular to celebrate weddings: at her daughter’s wedding, the mother cuts radiant red paper to decorate windows and cupboards with flowers, birds, fish and insects, as a way of wishing her daughter happiness.
One use of this paper seems to convey a message ofemancipation: the cocoon gradually transforms into a butterfly and flies with its own wings…
Each ceremonial gown is set with a multitude of natural pearls, their brilliance changing with every movement. Magnificent white feathers and dancing butterflies are superimposed on the creamy silk, creating a delightful contrast between the fragility and purity of the fabric and the strong, imposing lace.
The charm of the Orient is subtly represented by colors of touching candor : milky jade, pale greens and pinks, soft light grays, angelize the sirens of haute-couture, and stimulate the silhouette by leaning against the inlays of crimson pearls and the red necklace.
The creations sensually reveal the treasures of the female body : open necks, uncovered shoulders, low-cut backs and shoulder blades: the collection plays withvoluminous dress and exquisite nudity.
It’s an arabesque of freedom and elegance that takes place, and the creations highlight the women of the Orient, past and present, who assert themselves through their stunning femininity and thus mark their independence.
Women are sensitive, fearful and indomitable, but they also hide an inexhaustible strength and independence : Lan Yu is the ambassador here.
Achieving a visual and structural balance between the traditional and the contemporary, where elegance is combined with oriental beauty…
