In the peaceful valleys of the Swiss Jura, Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Manufacture renowned as the “Watchmaker’s Watchmaker”, unveils a new incarnation of its haute complication masterpiece, the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar. A veritable concentrate of elegance and technical virtuosity, this masterpiece combines age-old expertise and visionary creativity to offer an unprecedented interpretation of a great watchmaking complication.
The beating heart of this marvel lies in the new Calibre 868, an evolution of the famous perpetual calendar movement launched in 2013. Designed, manufactured and assembled in the Manufacture’s workshops, this high-flying mechanism incorporates a redesigned escapement and pallets optimized to reduce friction and increase energy efficiency. The result is an impressive 70-hour power reserve, so you can leave your watch on standby for an entire weekend without having to correct the indications when you return.
Behind its sleek silhouette lies one of the most difficult complications to master: the perpetual calendar. A true mechanical feat, this automatic system adapts to the varying lengths of the months and leap years, sparing all manual adjustment until 2100. A technical and historical challenge that Jaeger-LeCoultre has been mastering for decades.
While the proportions of the case – 39 mm in diameter and 9.2 mm thick – remain unchanged, its design has been subtly updated. The lugs have been slimmed down, for greater everyday comfort. The dial, meanwhile, is adorned with streamlined counters highlighting the complex indications, while the starry moon-phase sky is more refined. The applied hour-markers have been lengthened and the Dauphine hands meticulously crafted, alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces on each facet.
In the realm of Haute Horlogerie, where every detail counts, these minute alterations infuse a timeless elegance, imbued with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s quest for aesthetic and mechanical perfection. This care extends to the tiny safety indicator that turns red when setting the hours or calendar could damage the mechanism.
Available in four precious variations, the new Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar unveils a new interpretation in pink gold with a gradient midnight-blue dial. This deep hue contrasts subtly with the warm glow of the case, while the azure finish of the counters – engraved with perfectly regular concentric circles – creates a striking play of light.
Two other versions in pink gold, one simply dressed with an off-white dial, the other adorned with 60 diamonds set into the bezel, display timeless sophistication. Finally, for lovers of masculine elegance, a polished steel case houses a silver sunray dial.
Whichever variation you choose, the watch is adorned with an easily interchangeable alligator strap, inviting you to match its case to every outfit and occasion. A delightful reminder of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ability to combine traditional watchmaking with creative modernity.
By reinventing the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar, the Grande Maison once again demonstrates its insatiable thirst for innovation and its commitment to excellence, in the service of uncompromising refinement. An exceptional timepiece, worthy ambassador of the French art de vivre and the timeless quest for elegance and beauty that drives the Vallée de Joux.
