Discovering the Dolomites : Alpina Dolomites

The Alpina Dolomites rounds off our discovery of the Dolomites. Located in northern Italy, in the province of Alto Adige, in the heart of the Dolomites, this exceptional five-star hotel, a member of the Leading Hotels of the Word, offers the ideal retreat for mountain lovers in search of top-level amenities. A wonderful setting in winter or summer for a magical stay in this stylishly designed hotel.

What immediately catches our eye as we glimpse the hotel in the distance is its modern architecture, in stark contrast to the natural setting, a veritable mountain paradise. Like a futuristic vessel, the Alpina seems to be delicately placed on this plateau to sublimate it. It’s no coincidence that Le Corbusier described the Dolomites as “the most beautiful architecture in the world” ¸ and that UNESCO included them in its World Heritage List in 2009.

Opened in December 2010, the Alpina Dolomites Gardena Health Lodge & Spa is superbly nestled at an altitude of 1,860 m in the heart of Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest and most beautiful alpine pasture (56 km2). What’s more, the hotel has the privilege of being located at the foot of the slopes of a spectacular ski area, facing a dream panorama. It’s a real pleasure to open your window and watch the mountains take shape, or to count the clouds that brush against the mountain.

This eco-friendly hotel features sleek architecture clad entirely in stone, wood and glass, blending seamlessly into the landscape.

Inside, extravagant volumes punctuated by transparency create fluid, luminous spaces whose singular articulation puts them in direct contact with the natural setting outside. Large expanses of glass, noble mountain materials such as wood and local stone, materials that are as soft to the eye as they are to the touch, designer furniture and lighting, and warm tones ranging from ash browns to ice browns and taupe greys, create a refined mountain décor of the utmost distinction.

The 56 elegantly designed rooms (50 m2) and suites (from 75 m2 to 150 m2) promise immersion in a world of refinement, where detail is king. Extremely comfortable, they feature spacious bathrooms and balconies or terraces offering unforgettable panoramic views. Four magnificent “De luxe” suites are housed in the “Chalet”, a futuristic, curvaceous construction linked to the main building by an underground passageway.

The Spa distills harmony like an antidote to urban stress… At Alpina Spa, every space is a world of well-being, where the eye and the body are spellbound. Impressive volumes, clean lines and décor, natural materials (quartz, sand-colored quartzite, glass, untreated wood) and chromatic light effects combine to create a contemporary architectural achievement of the finest effect. The aquatic area features a panoramic indoor pool, punctuated by rest areas with fireplaces, and a year-round heated outdoor pool with bubble massage benches. The detox and relaxation area features a Finnish sauna, an aromatic herbal sauna, a salt steam hammam, an aromatic hammam, foot baths, sensory showers, an ice nugget well and two relaxation lounges, one with a fireplace and water beds.

Living spaces such as the Mountain Lounge & Bar, the Library Lounge, the Cigar Lounge ¸ and the Mountain Restaurant, lined with delightful typical “Stuben”, exude a voluptuous, hushed ambience. Outside, the superb open-air terrace offers an eye-catching 180-degree panoramic view.

At Alpina Dolomites, the art of hospitality reaches new heights. The offer, the quality of service, the top-of-the-range amenities and the gastronomic register are based on the tradition of excellence. We enjoyed refined dishes in a delicate setting.

The culinary and oenological register will delight the most discerning gourmets. At the Mountain Restaurant, Chef Julian Seeber and his team orchestrate an inventive, subtle and refined gastronomic symphony inspired by the best of Italian, regional and international cuisine. The emphasis is also on fresh, healthy and balanced cuisine, using natural ingredients and fresh local produce. Impeccable, courteous and attentive service provides a pleasant rhythm to every meal.

At the top of the mountains, the Alpina Dolomites offers a wide range of skiing and hiking activities. The lucky skiers staying at the Alpina Dolomites simply have to put on their skis when they leave the ski-room, before setting off on the 60 km of sun-drenched slopes. Labelled “Dolomiti Superski”, the Alpe di Siusi ski area is directly linked to Val Gardena, one of the peninsula’s most popular winter sports destinations. This beautiful valley, awarded the “Leading Mountain Resorts of the World ¸ label, boasts 175 km of pistes, 84 modern lifts and a snow metro that serves the valley from one end to the other.

What’s more, with a single “Dolomiti Superski” ski pass, all 1,220 km of Dolomite slopes are just a click away. The world’s largest ski carousel! For more modest “skiing” objectives, seasoned skiers can set off from the hotel’s ski-room on the famous “Sella Ronda” which, with its 26 km of runs, is one of the best and most exciting circuits in Europe.

In addition to downhill skiing, cross-country skiing (60 km of trails) and snowboarding, fans of the “great white” can enjoy fantastic hiking (30 km of groomed trails) or snowshoeing. Tobogganing and romantic sleigh rides are other winter activities on offer in this fabulous paradise of snow and ice.

During the summer months, mountain biking is another popular activity for two-wheeled enthusiasts, who enjoy the splendid scenery of the Alpe di Siusi. The same goes for electric bike tours for less experienced cyclists. The hotel offers free rental of mountain bikes and electric bikes (for a fee), and organizes guided tours with the hotel’s own instructor.

In addition, an experienced instructor is on hand to guide outdoor sports enthusiasts on hiking, Nordic walking, snowshoeing or skiguiding.
