“My Purple Label Spring 2018 collection is imbued with a new flexibility of tailoring in suits, thanks to luxurious, lightweight fabrics, and a unique range of pieces borrowed from sportswear for raw, active elegance, or more sophisticated with glamorous eveningwear. The Purple Label sensibility speaks to the gentleman of the world, who seeks this modern yet timeless quality,” explains Ralph Lauren.

The focal point of the collection is this style, borrowed from the world of racing. vintage, with a graphic palette of black, cream and red. References to the Tour de France and cycle racing, with the slogan “Oversized crests on new knits and sporty stripe detailing on trousers evoke Purple Label’s sporting heritage. Oversized coats of arms on new knits and sports stripe details on pants evoke Purple Label’s sporting heritage. Graphic sweatshirts featuring a winged “P” and a gymnast on a pommel horse reinterpret Ralph Lauren’s iconic 1992 Stadium collection.

For evening, classic formal wear is reinvented with unexpected fabrics and new details. Key pieces include a cream-colored houndstooth tuxedo, and a suit jacket with a Prince de Galle print (both designed from extremely fine silk, usually reserved for ties), as well as a double-breasted linen tuxedo jacket.

The rest of the collection is more relaxed, with slightly washed and wrinkled suits, sports coats, double-pleated pants with integrated waistbands, and new soft shirts for a more casual look.

Crafted from the world’s finest cottons, linens and wools exclusively for Purple Label, the jackets feature a soft shoulder cut and unlined finishes to embody the season’s relaxed attitude. The new shirt jacket is defined by its fluid ease, mounted without a center seam, and with a drawstring waistband.

Rich textures and patterns add a subtle dimension to these tonal ensembles of charcoal, navy and soft neutrals. A blue linen suit has a surprisingly urban feel, paired with a layered turtleneck sweater. A faded suit in old rose silk and cotton evokes the ultimate expression of refined leisure.

Tone-on-tone cream combinations pay homage to the glamorous eras of the past, while a play on proportions is deftly implemented with the combination of pleated pants and short military jackets.

The collection concludes with a raw, casual outfit inspired by the American Southwest, featuring a distressed leather jacket, and a sumptuous suede fringed coat. A sport coat with a poncho-style print, paired with a neutral crew-neck tee and cream-colored pleated pants, conveys a wild, eclectic sensibility that evokes both the heritage of Ralph Lauren’s style, and the contemporary era of personal style expression.
