After Dresden in Germany, Paris welcomes its second boutique in Europe at 19, rue de la Paix, Paris 2éme; a new milestone for the brand, which now benefits from a very fine address, just a stone’s throw from Place Vendôme, the Mecca of fine jewelry and watchmaking.
With a surface area of 60 m2 on two levels, A.Lange & Söhne Paris offers connoisseurs, watch enthusiasts and future customers the opportunity to explore our vision of fine watchmaking. The choice of location for this new boutique reflects the economic and historical importance of France to the brand. The Paris boutique, managed by Ms Sunny Song, is the brand’s tenth worldwide.
A.Lange & Söhne opened its first own boutique five years ago in Dresden, the capital of Saxony. In an atmosphere tailor-made for this brand with a long tradition, watch enthusiasts can discover up close the history and philosophy of the art of artisan watchmaking.
The story of A.Lange & Söhne and Paris began in 1837. Seven years before founding his own manufacture, Ferdinand A. Lange, armed with a letter of recommendation from his apprenticeship master, Gutkaes, set off for what was then the capital of the watchmaking art. Paris was to be the turning point in his life. There, he worked for four years as a workshop supervisor at a famous chronometer manufacturer, Joseph Thaddäus Winnerl, and expanded his knowledge of astronomy in the classes of the physicist and director of
the Paris Observatory, Dominique François Arago. In 1841, Lange left Paris with a sketchbook full of new designs, the idea of introducing the metric system to German watchmaking and the goal of manufacturing the world’s finest watches in his native country. In 1853, Lange shipped watches abroad for the first time, notably to France.
History repeated itself more than 150 years later: since 1995, France has once again been one of the leading markets outside Germany
