THE LUSH PARADISE OF FATIMA LOPES
Fatima Lopes is one of my favorite designers. Indeed, her interpretation of women’s fashion has always had a particular resonance with me. Her conceptual and sultry credo is to sublimate the female body in such an intelligent way that I can’t help but fall under the Portuguese designer’s spell.
Fatima LOPES based this collection on the theme of her childhood. She grew up on the lush island of Madeira and enjoyed a happy, free childhood, close to the elements and nature, and above all to the warmth of Iberian bodies.
The result was a parade of verdant colors mixed with the depths of darker hues such as black and dark purple. Accessories were also on show, with arm bracelets and golden shoe ornaments representing flowers.
Tropical flower and exotic bird motifs are presented in kaleidoscopic symmetry, reminding me of the weary Givenchy (men’s) collections. Fabrics are light, from body-hugging silk to synthetic materials that stick to the body like the sweat of a scorching summer.
As part of the summer collection, we also saw swimsuits, so sexy, leaving little to the imagination, but after all, isn’t that Fatima LOPES’ aim? To present a free, whimsical woman who embraces her desires and fantasies, showing off the perfection of her body in the scorching heat of the Portuguese island.
