HARDY AMIES MENS COLLECTION SS 2013
BETC was the venue for the Hardy Amies fashion show. In the heatwave earlier in the week, the cardboard invitations sent out by the press office had found a new use as fans. And what could be more chic and snobbish than a fan? Surely the collection presented that day.
White was present in this show, but not as much as in others. Perfectly blended with beige and taupe grey, it was found on pants, suits, shorts and shoes. In terms of color, there are various shades of blue (especially on patterns), ranging from cerulean to navy, with light touches of fluorescent.
The attention paid to evening wear was very special. Silk jackets with incredible reflections reminiscent of water, the sea, vacations on the English coast and therefore spring/summer. We also saw patterned shorts (reminding me of women’s fashion, and in this case, Proenza Schouler) belted with brocade shirts, fine ties and chunky knit sweaters, resulting in an incredibly elegant mix of styles.
The ensemble is very “wearable”, as long as you agree not to wear socks with your shoes (a striking detail, but so much a reflection of Sir Hardy Amies, described by one of his former press attachés as “an arrogant man with an incredible sense of humor”).
What’s most striking about Hardy Amies is the simplicity of the cuts (nothing too extravagant compared to what we’ve seen elsewhere), but also the mix of styles without compromising the preppy, preppy feel of the collection. And the sunglasses-wearing dandies sent down the catwalk were there to prove it.
