Ethical fashion is a trend presented by both artisanal and industrial structures. It is also a fashion that brings together designers who want to reduce the impact of their production on the environment. They use “ecological”, recycled or organic materials, combined with manufacturing processes that consume less water, energy and transport. This trend is inspired by traditional models from different countries. Apart from the use of organic materials, this fashion is characterized by its social and economic commitment. It benefits the country’s economy, and has a positive impact on the population’s standard of living, enabling them to contribute to the development of society. Organic clothing is original and creative. They satisfy a very wide audience of men, women and children, in terms of both quality and comfort. It has to be said, however, that this process is still costly, which means that the finished article is more expensive to buy than conventional products.
Examples of eco-friendly materials
Here are a few examples of eco-friendly materials: bamboo fiber and powder, hemp, cotton grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. These materials are then combined with recycled materials obtained from plastics. The result is high-quality products that protect the environment. Organic fashion is enjoying unprecedented success.
Ethical fashion and major brands
Like Puma (discussed in a previous article), Nike is also one of the American footwear, apparel and sports equipment companies with an emphasis on ecology. After being accused in the 90s of employing child labor in its factories in Asia, the company has since made up for this by putting ethical issues back at the heart of its policy. Since 2008, Nike has launched a trend for ethical sneakers made from recycled materials, and since 2011 has been developing eco-designed products.
