For Spring-Summer 2024, Artistic Director Nigo continues his creative dialogue between the heritage of Kenzo Takada and his contemporary vision. Presented on the Debilly catwalk in Paris, this women’s and men’s collection reinterprets the codes of the House of Kenzo in a modern wardrobe, at the crossroads of East and West.
New-generation elegance
This spring-summer 2024 proposal retains Kenzo’s sportswear DNA while infusing it with a new-generation elegance. Feminine silhouettes are adorned with airy overlays and graceful long dresses.
Waistlines are marked by slim-fitting jackets or columnar cardigans worn open. Summery materials like linen make up matching shirt-and-trouser ensembles, a nod to Kenzo Takada’s coordinated looks.
On the men’s side, kimono coats rub shoulders with judo jackets revisited as work jackets. Casual suits are tinged with pop shades. The look is both casual and refined.
Japanese and American inspiration
This spring-summer collection plays on Japanese-American cultural exchanges. Japanese denim jackets with side slits are worn over sportswear pieces. Traditional bombers take on floral prints.
Kenzo’s emblematic Seigaiha and Boke motifs are revisited in jacquards. The KENZO logo, designed by artist Verdy, is emblazoned on the garment, lending it modernity and movement. Nigo’s signature camouflage print blends with acid florals.
As for accessories, American baseball caps rub shoulders with martial arts belts. A hybrid wardrobe, where Japanese and Western influences blend seamlessly.
A colorful pop soundtrack
This spring-summer 2024 collection is in keeping with the zeitgeist of City Pop, the musical trend of the 80s in Japan, blending pop, funk and boogie. The show’s soundtrack, conceived by musician Cornelius, is inspired by this trend for a rhythmic, feel-good show.
Fruity prints, tangy colors and sixties logos give freshness and energy to this proposal that brilliantly combines sportswear and new elegance. A modern, dynamic wardrobe, in the image of today’s Kenzo woman and man.
With this collection, Nigo succeeds in reinterpreting Kenzo’s heritage in a resolutely contemporary style. The Japanese designer breathes extra soul into the French label, for fashion that appeals to all generations.
