Highland Park, the Orkney distillery, unveils its new 50-year-old single malt Scotch whisky.

The third 50-year-old produced by the distillery in 223 years, it is made using the traditional Solera method, which involves taking a small quantity of whisky from a previous batch and blending it with a new one.

Highland Park 50 Years Old has been carefully selected from 9 second-fill casks, originally cellared in 1968, blended in 2008, then re-slept in first-fill sherry oak casks.

Highland Park, based in Orkney, unveils its new 50-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, the third produced by the distillery in its 223-year history.

This 50-year-old whisky has been produced using the traditional Solera method. Best known for sherry aging, this process involves taking a small quantity of whisky from a previous batch and combining it with a new whisky, thus perpetuating a heritage by creating a new legacy.

This new edition of Highland Park 50 Years Old has been carefully selected from 9 second-fill casks, originally cellared in 1968, blended in 2008 and then re-slept in first-fill sherry oak casks. After a further 12 years of ageing, one of these casks was selected and blended with a small quantity of whisky from the distillery’s last 50-year-old production.

Presented in a walnut wood box, handcrafted by Scottish master craftsman John Galvin, the whisky is preserved in a thick glass bottle with reliefs, whose design is inspired by the Orkney archipelago’s Nordic roots, which go back over 1,200 years. A hand-crafted decanter, adorned with a metal decoration of inextricably linked lines, and a leather-bound book recounting the history of the 50-year-old whisky complete the set.
