It’s official: Guadeloupe now produces organic rum. Rhum Bologne, Guadeloupe’s emblematic distillery, has unveiled an organic rum with an eco-responsible DNA.
This first cuvée with the organic label opens the door to other cuvées from the distillery that will be making their appearance in the coming months.
Bologna: an eco-responsible distillery

Since 2010, Bologna has been producing renewable energy by recovering all manufacturing waste, thus becoming part of an eco-green cycle!

In this way, it produces its own energy to meet the needs of the distillery, with surplus energy fed back into the EDF grid.
The liquid residue from distillation is transformed by micro-organisms in a methanizer. The next logical step is to produce organic rum.

That’s why, thanks to its new practices inspired by reasoned agriculture (no insecticides, no herbicides), Bologna is the first distillery on the island to obtain organic certification. An initiative begun in 2017, leading after 3 years of conversion to organic certification in 2020. The first rum to obtain organic certification in Guadeloupe

After numerous checks by the certification body, Bologna has obtained this precious sesame. And it was yellow cane that was chosen as part of the organic certification process.

As a result, the 2020 harvest of cane from the organically farmed plot has enabled us to produce Guadeloupe’s first organic rum.

To complement this approach, the packaging has been redesigned with a cane fiber label.

Tasting notes

Color: crystal-clear
Nose: fine vegetal notes, smoke, licorice stick, hints of fresh cane, lemon and iodine notes, mirabelle plums, and tropical fruits (maracuja).
Palate: liquorice, fresh cane, floral, lavender, marzipan (orgeat, frangipane), gingerbread, tarte tatin.

Rhum Bologne: one of the most complete ranges on the market

Divided into 3 categories: Rhums Blancs, Rhums Vieux et Ambrés, and Rhums Mix & Cocktails, Bologna rums meet all consumer expectations.

Since 2014, the Bologna distillery has been undergoing a major revival, inaugurating a number of projects. The first of these is a very significant expansion of its offering with the launches of a new VS aged rum, a “cocktail” range with a wood-aged GOLD, and a SILVER in 2014.
Followed by the launch of the premium range in 2015: Black Cane (single-varietal white), VO, VSOP and XO.

In 2015, the focus was on aged rums, with the construction of an ageing cellar, as well as the complete restructuring of the Bologna cane plantations, and the modernization of the production tool.
