NEW LAPIS-LAZULI COLLECTION
TO MARK EARTH DAY 2020, APRIL 22, POMELLATO PRESENTS THE LAPIS -LAZULI DENIM CAPSULE COLLECTION, MADE ENTIRELY WITH SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS SOURCED FROM RESPONSIBLE SOURCES AROUND THE WORLD.
On this important day of environmental awareness, the Milanese jeweler reveals a ring, bracelet and earrings with a beautiful story to tell. Combined with dark red rubies from Tanzania and the warm glow of handcrafted Fairmined rose gold, lapis lazuli from Chile evokes the relaxed elegance and universal appeal of jeans. Pomellato is proud to continue its journey in the use of socially responsible materials from sustainable resources, celebrating the great diversity of minerals in exceptional, luxurious creations endowed with the bold, emblematic style of the house.
The project began with an idea from the Kering Award for Sustainable Fashion 2018 event, held at the London College of Fashion. Winner of the competition, Chilean student María Teresa Flores proposed creating jewelry using lapis lazuli sourced from sustainable resources in her native country. Interested in the idea, Pomellato investigated further and discovered the company Las Flores de los Andes, which supplies lapis lazuli. The stone is sustainably extracted in the company’s high-altitude artisanal mine, which is the only one of its kind in this South American country. The lapis lazuli was meticulously selected by Pomellato’s team of gem-buying experts for its high percentage of lazurite, which infuses the opaque stone with a deep blue color and a most seductive texture truly reminiscent of beloved jeans.
Lapis lazuli has been delicately faceted in the characteristic style of the Ritratto collection, revealing the stone’s intriguing natural beauty. Set with rubies sourced from sustainable resources in Tanzania, two refined claws wrap seductively around the lapis lazuli’s corners as if they were gently caressing it.
Each piece of jewelry is crafted in Fairmined rose gold from certified mines in Colombia. The Fairmined certification label guarantees that the precious metal comes from identifiable artisanal mines that maintain safe working conditions, do not employ child labor, and ensure the application of strict environmental management. To provide clear proof of origin, the Fairmined mark is stamped on each piece of jewelry, which comes with a “passport of origin” guaranteeing complete traceability from mine to finished piece. The company’s renowned goldsmithing skills complete the charm of this noble-hearted gold.
Each piece created is entirely crafted in-house, from the melting of the gold to the final polishing, preserving both Pomellato’s artisan heritage and the origin of each component. Only available on the Pomellato website, the jewels are made to order in limited editions.
