STORY
Through the ages, our planet has shaped nature’s great mysteries. Memories of Iceland’s landscapes, seen through the prism of the creative team, have become a source of inspiration.
Wide faults cut through a rugged landscape, moss-covered volcanic rocks glisten in the sunlight and crystalline glaciers stretch as far as the eye can see.

ISSEY MIYAKE: SPRING SUMMER 2018 Collection from ISSEY MIYAKE INC. on Vimeo.

Look 1-12, 17-20
The 3-dimensional shapes obtained with Steam Stretch * are, this season, flattened during printing, bringing softness and lightness to the garment. The basic color of the fabric appears in the shadows of the pleats, creating a stunning visual effect.
*Steam Stretch, a technique that uses steam heat to shrink a thread with elastic properties, creates a simple, refined pleat on a piece of fabric (A Piece of Cloth)
Look 15-16
Baked Stretch ** continues its evolution, bringing more suppleness to the garment. Images of Icelandic landscapes appear between the irregular pleats, like memories that change and fade over time.
** Baked Stretch is a process in which a special glue is applied to the fabric before it is “baked”, permanently shaping the pleat.
Look 34-36
A series of colorful squared garments whose brown color is obtained using a natural pigment extracted from the earth. This traditional mud-dyeing technique, known as “Dorozome”, originates from Amami Oshima, a tropical island in southern Japan.
Look 24-26, 28-32, 41-44
“CUBE”, a textile created by combining a multitude of square pieces of fabric. The flat garment forms a square and transforms into 3 dimensions when worn. These fragments of memory link together to reconstitute our memory.
