A few weeks ago, we went to Mont Saint Michel to meet a veritable institution: La Mère Poulard.

It all begins with a guided tour of the Abbey, a historic monument that has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1979
within the Mont Saint-Michel and its bay, and is managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. The Abbey is one of
France’s most visited cultural sites. Mont Saint-Michel is the marvel and masterpiece of Western architecture, built over 1300 years ago. A UNESCO natural and cultural heritage site, Mont Saint-Michel is one of the 8 Wonders of the World.Mont Saint-Michel was the center of spirituality in the Western world from the 8th to the 16th century, when the greatest pilgrimages in the West took place. Mont Saint-Michel became the symbol of French National Resistance during the “100 Years’ War” in the 14th and 15th centuries, when 101 French knights victoriously defended Mont Saint-Michel against 25,000 English soldiers. Mont Saint-Michel lies at the heart of an immense bay, home to the world’s highest tides. It’s a unique place that tourists come to see from all over the world.

As famous as the Abbey, La Mère Poulard is a Mont Saint Michel institution. In 1888, La Mère Poulard opened her famous hotel-restaurant in the historic town of Mont Saint-Michel. Thanks to her talent as a cook and the 700 recipes she created, including the famous soufflé omelette, she became the most famous cook in France and the world. La Mère Poulard has welcomed celebrities from the worlds of art, business and politics… A unique exhibition of 3,500 photographs, signatures and enthusiastic comments from the world’s most famous people over the last 130 years can be found on the walls of the hotel.
Today, Le Groupe La Mère Poulard comprises 7 hotels, 8 restaurants, 4 takeaway cafés, 8 gift stores and 3 museums.

But let’s get back to the famous, historic inn that has been a tradition since 1888. The hotel*** La Mère Poulard, located in the heart of Mont Saint-Michel, has retained the character of the fine inns of yesteryear. You’ll appreciate the charm and comfort of this famous traditional inn, with its rooms overlooking the bay, the Abbey and the medieval town, as well as the quality of the services on offer. The two historic buildings that make up this hotel are steeped in history:
– La Maison du Rocher, set against the granite rock of Mont Saint-Michel, which can also be admired in the historic dining room of La Mère Poulard restaurant. – La Maison Rouge and its garden at the foot of the rampart.

In addition to the inn and abbey, Mont Saint Michel attracts many visitors for its bay, which we were lucky enough to visit.
