Issey Miyake explores all fields of creativity, provoking surprise with simplicity.
In 1992, guided by his imagination and his vision of a sublimated nature, Issey Miyake created his first fragrance: “the most beautiful, purest fragrance in the world: the scent of water on a woman’s skin”.
L’Eau d’Issey is not a fragrance like the others: it first surprises, then charms with its familiar softness and obviousness. L’Eau d’Issey shakes things up with the essentials.
A cascade of emotions, clear, universal water, it opens with a breath of freshness, both aquatic and vegetal. A new way of writing nature. At the top, the wet scent of the eau de Rose and Cyclamen accord bursts into a shower of intoxicating freesia. Light, diffusive Peony and White Lily punctuate the beating of a spicy heart of Carnation. Then the floral heart clings to a base impregnated with precious woods, with unsettling accords of Musk and Osmanthus, echoing the warmth of Tuberose.
It’s called “Eau” but it’s a perfume, concentrated, sensual, with a generous trail. Clear and transparent, its freshness is warm.
A gushing source of life, its absolutely simple bottle borders on the extreme refinement of a new luxury.
L’Eau d’Issey astonishes. Interesting. Attracts. Moves. Seduces. Fascinates.
L’Eau d’Issey Pure, at the source of L’Eau d’Issey.
In 2016, Issey Miyake breathes new life into L’Eau d’Issey and opens the second chapter of its history.
At the source of L’Eau d’Issey, there is a drop, just a drop. Rare and precious.
As the seasons pass ever more quickly, Issey Miyake recaptures its love of a nature that takes its time, its time, to set itself in motion, awakened by water.
A water that is born, and flows, peaceful.
Pure water creates suspended moments, dreamlike interludes, moments of serenity and fulfillment, out of time.
The purity of a drop of water on a woman’s skin.
Transparent yet profound, fluid yet enveloping, Eau d’Issey Pure is rich in contrasts.
Embodied by the iodized breath of Maritima combined with Ambre Gris, Eau d’Issey Pure is anchored in a new aquatic history.
Maritima*, an exclusive IFF molecule, evokes clear, fresh waters, while Ambre Gris, with its mineral and animal inflections, brings sensuality and generosity to the fragrance.
As if floating on the great saline expanse, a bouquet of flowers shines. Crystalline Lily of the Valley responds to the radiance of Orange Blossom. We dive into their delicate white trail.
Then come other, denser flowers. Essence of Rose Damascena, still gorged with the morning dew from which it was seized, carries opulent Jasmine with it in an intoxication of petals.
The journey continues. In the background, an irresistible call rings out, that of Cashmeran*, all musky, woody vibrations.
Pure and powerful, Eau d’Issey Pure touches distant shores at the touch of a drop.
And the drop becomes the bottle
A slender, conical and iconic silhouette, this is the signature of the famous L’Eau d’Issey glass bottle.
The architecture of the L’Eau d’Issey Pure bottle borrows its main codes, its refinement, from the sobriety of the glass to the satin silver cap. With one exception: the crystalline bead that adorns its top has slipped to the bottom of the L’Eau d’Issey Pure bottle. This artistic choice was made by American designer Todd Bracher, who illustrates this return to basics with a poetic, unmannered touch.
“L’Eau d’Issey is everything that other fragrances are not. Eau d’Issey evokes a real simplicity and purity around this notion of water. For Eau d’Issey Pure, we captured the simplest image of water, which for me is that of a drop. The drop symbolizes the perfume and becomes the bottle” Todd Bracher
L’Eau d’Issey is pure, from the beauty of its bottle to its unique fragrance, to the suspended moment captured by Daniel Jouanneau’s lens.
