The Domaine Chanson, rooted in Burgundy and based in Beaune for over 250 years, extends over 45 hectares in the most beautiful villages of the Côte de Beaune, from Savigny, through Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet, Beaune, Pernand Vergelesses to the hillside of Corton. With 10 plots in Beaune, the Domaine is often cited, and rightly so, as one of the appellation’s leading specialists.
Of the 10 parcels that the domaine owns, Les Marconnets is located at the top of the hillside at the northern tip of the Beaune area. This climat takes its name from the Germanic tribe of Marcomans, who settled here in the 3rd century AD. Chanson owns approximately 4 hectares, or 40% of the climat. Clos des Marconnets is situated on clay-limestone soil, which is deeper on the lower slopes and rests on limestone bedrock at the top of the parcel, conferring an imposing structure and powerful tannins.
After a very cold winter and a warm, bright spring, the mixed summer gave way at the beginning of September to a warm, bright Indian summer. The grapes were harvested in mid-September to ensure full maturity. Careful vinification and ageing enabled us to extract a fine substance from the Pinots Noirs, which impress with their fine tannins and fleshy texture. Aged in oak barrels for 20 months.
Chanson’s Clos des Marconnets 2011 is a deep ruby color. Intense aromas of plum, blackcurrant and violets are revealed, with hints of spice and vanilla. This is a well-balanced wine with good substance, lots of energy and aromatic complexity. Fine-grained tannins and delicate oak. Good persistence.
Chanson’s Clos des Marconnets 2011 goes perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats (baked beef fillet, tournedos rossini) and game dishes such as pavé de biche.
Chanson’s Beaune Clos des Marconnets Premier Cru 2011 is available from the best wine merchants at an average retail price of €43.
