An Andean wind blows across the Boulevard du Temple. At number 13, Le 1K Hotel Restaurant Bar reveals the secrets of Peruvian culture and gastronomy. A completely different atmosphere awaits you backstage. A Mexican enclave in the back of this Peruvian establishment, forget everything you think about Mexico and let yourself be tempted by La Mezcaleria, the establishment’s new confidential address. Access to this exclusive venue is via an unusual passageway through the restaurant’s kitchens.

That evening, a security guard led us through the kitchens to the Mezcaleria. A Mexican spirit similar to tequila, this 38° to 48° alcohol was the traditional drink of Oaxacan peasants, who drank it to forget their long days of toil in the agave fields. Appreciated for its bitter, generous and bewitching character, it is now coming to shake up our Parisian cocktails.
Pure, Mezcal will be served in jicaras – the tropical fruit of the calabash tree – or vasos veleros – engraved Mexican tasting glasses – enough to make you feel like a robust Mexican and defy the laws of singularity.

For a cocktail party, we play the Mexican card game. Draw the one that suits your personality, mood or curiosity. Choose “El Diablito” for a bloody, spicy, macho Mezcal cocktail, or the “Corazon” card, translated as “The Heart”, for a sweeter cocktail preferred by the feminine gender. Traditional guacamole or grilled grasshoppers will accompany your confidential noche to the rhythms of salsa, Afro-Cuban Jazz or Mexican house.
