To celebrate 60 years of couture, Pierre Cardin has created a new museum. Tired of the first version opened in 2006 in St Ouen. Since mid-November 2014, the collections have been installed in the new location, 5 rue Merri in Paris.
This former mansion was once owned by the designer. Three floors dedicated to his extreme experiments. From 1953 and his first collection, he had an impact on the future of fashion. Drawing on his experience at Paquin, Schiaparelli and Dior, and his unflagging creativity, he captured an era and anticipated the future. His bubble dresses and radical architecture, both playful and aesthetically pleasing, won him recognition for his talent.
Undeniably, it had an impact on the future of ready-to-wear, and gave birth to it. In this sense, he revolutionized dress codes.
Both men’s and women’s wardrobes were involved.
The collarless, button-down, round-neck jackets seduced the Beatles. Unconditional fans, the Beatles turned to the designer for their stage outfits. John Macnee donned his creations to honor the role of John Steed in the series Melon Hat and Leather Boots.
Past-Present-Future, the new Museum bears witness to this. Nearly 200 pieces trace this creative inspiration. Clothing, accessories, . . Each piece evokes an evolution.
This architect of futurism in fashion knew how to play with eras. From the 60s to the 80s and beyond. Some of the pieces are on display.
A reminder of Pierre Cardin’s design concepts. Whatever the medium, the essential is elsewhere, in this atypical and continuous creative breath that characterizes Pierre Cardin.
