The Longines Global Champions Tour Paris Eiffel Jumping, presented by Gucci, is jointly organized by Virginie Coupérie-Eiffel and Jan Tops. Virginie Coupérie-Eiffel, French Equestrian Champion and descendant of Gustave Eiffel, is President of Paris Eiffel Jumping. The event will be held in partnership with Longines and Gucci, two historic supporters of the equestrian world, the Qatar Equestrian Federation and the Mairie de Paris. It marks the French capital’s entry into the Longines Global Champions Tour, the show jumping circuit considered the most prestigious in the world and created by Jan Tops, President of the Longines Global Champions Tour.

This event was presented with great fanfare last week.

Three days of “Cheval pour Tous” in the heart of Paris

The Longines Global Champions Tour Paris Eiffel Jumping, presented by Gucci, is a popular, intergenerational event, built around the values of excellence and elegance that are the hallmarks of the horse.

The grandstands of the international sporting event will be open to the general public FREE OF CHARGE. The competition will feature Olympic and World Champions as well as renowned amateurs such as Guillaume Canet and Charlotte Casiraghi.

A “Village”, a warm and inviting space for discovery, will feature events revealing every facet of the equestrian “industry” – from traditional crafts to artistic expressions based around the horse (photography, painting, literature…). Visitors will be able to watch riders and horses in training on the warm-up track located in the heart of the “Village”, interactive areas where they can meet the champions, “workshops” where they can learn about harnessing and grooming horses, and an ephemeral bookshop…

The event will showcase the equestrian arts with spectacular performances by the Garde républicaine, the elite corps of the French Gendarmerie, and Jean-François Pignon, who will present his famous “horses on the loose” acts that have amazed the world.

Three days of international competition, also open to future champions of the discipline

The Longines Global Champions Tour Paris Eiffel Jumping, presented by Gucci, is one of the most prestigious show jumping competitions on the planet, bringing together the world’s top 40 riders (World Champions, Olympic Champions…):

  • Scott Brash (Great Britain), world n°1
  • Marcus Ehning (Germany), Team World Champion in 2010, World Cup winner in 2003, 2006 and 2010,
  • Pénélope Leprévost (France), 2006 and 2007 French Champion, 2010 World Team Vice-Champion and 2011 European Team Vice-Champion,
  • Roger-Yves Bost (France), reigning European Champion,
  • Kevin Staut (France), French No.1 and world No.6,
  • Steve Guerdat (Switzerland), reigning Olympic Champion.

The event is both :

  • a 5* equestrian competition, the highest category in the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) hierarchy, counting towards the discipline’s world ranking,
  • one of the 14 stages of the Longines Global Champions Tour, the world’s most renowned circuit, bringing together exceptional destinations such as Monaco, Shanghai, London and Doha.

Just a few weeks away from the World Equestrian Games to be held in Normandy from August 23 to September 7, 2014, the Longines Global Champions Tour Paris Eiffel Jumping, presented by Gucci, is therefore a “final rehearsal” for the competitors. They will take part in 8 events including, with 1.60-meter-high obstacles, the Prix du Qatar, the “Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix” and the “Gucci Gold Cup”.

The competition is also an opportunity for amateurs to rub shoulders with their favorite champions by taking part in international-level events. Among these riders are young hopefuls and celebrities such as Katya Rybolovleva, Electra Niarchos, Guillaume Canet, Charlotte Casiraghi, Marina Hands and Georgina Bloomberg, who will take on the courses of Italian ringmaster Uliano Vezzani.

The event will also showcase French gastronomy. Coco Coupérie-Eiffel and Christophe Bonnat, specialists in catering and events, will be in charge of organization, with the aim of marrying haute gastronomy with conviviality. They have chosen Frédéric Vardon, chef of the Michelin-starred restaurant Le 39V, and Alain Ducasse’s teams to design the meals for the areas dedicated to business meetings and exchanges.

The contemporary artist Robert Combas, famous for his baroque universe of characters and animals, particularly the figure of the horse, has designed the poster for the Longines Global Champions Tour Paris Eiffel Jumping, presented by Gucci. A poster campaign will take place in Paris in the weeks leading up to the event.
